Escape to the Bruce Peninsula
Perched on the tip of the Bruce Peninsula, Tobermory is a lakeside town known for its knockout scenery and laidback vibes. The towering cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment serve as a dramatic backdrop, housing picturesque Flowerpot Island and a pair of national parks. Summer brings lashings of sunshine and legions of visitors. Spend your days relaxing in Little Tub Harbor, island hopping in Georgian Bay, or hitting the forested hiking trails of Bruce Peninsula National Park. There’s also world class diving, fantastic fishing, and even a scenic golf course to tee off on.
Sea stacks and shipwrecks
Rising high above Georgian Bay, Flower Pot Island is famous for its pair of looming sea stacks. Daily glass bottom boat tours will whisk you to the island and showcase a handful of shipwrecks along the way. Big Tub Lighthouse watches over the bay and is a great place to get a bird’s eye view of the harbor or take in a fiery sunset. If you want to work off your fish and chips, why not pull on your hiking boots and hit a section of the Bruce Trail, Canada’s oldest and longest footpath?
A Lake Huron haven
Sandwiched between Georgian Bay and the main basin of Lake Huron, the Bruce Peninsula is impossibly scenic. It overlooks the rugged cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment, bordered by the sparkling waters of Fathom Five National Marine Park and the ages-old cedar trees of Bruce Peninsula National Park. Many Tobermory vacation rentals make the most of the scenery, with cozy cottages complete with sun drenched decks and colorful chairs. And, if you have a hankering for big city pursuits, you can always make the trek down to Toronto for a few days in the urban playground.
